The Prize at the “ i2a va in città ” Forum

24 February 2015, at 8.30 p.m. | University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI), Canobbio (Switzerland)

Judit Carrera will represent the Prize at an international meeting in the metropolitan area of Lugano (Switzerland) of cultural centres dealing with urban themes.

Judit Carrera, director of the European Prize for Urban Public Space, has been invited to participate in the fourth session of the “i2a va in città” forum, which is to be held on 24 February 2015 at 8.30 p.m. The venue of the function will be the campus of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) in Canobbio, which is in the metropolitan area of Lugano (Switzerland). The forum is organised by the Istituto Internazionale di Architettura (i2a), a prestigious architecture and urban planning research centre which was founded in 1983 in Morcote, a municipality in the same region. In fact, SUPSI and the i2a – which has just moved to the centre of Lugano – have a working agreement whereby they promote reflection and debate about the urban transformations the region is undergoing. Indeed, the municipalities of the metropolitan area of Lugano are caught up in a process of agglomeration which brings them into the more densely populated urban continuum of the Swiss Canton of Ticino. This has led to the creation by the two institutions of the online platform forum.i2a.ch which enables citizens and professionals to express their views on the changes entailed in this process.

It is in this same spirit that the "i2a va in città” forum has been organised as an itinerant lecture cycle which invites different European institutions to share their experiences in fostering exchanges of ideas on architecture, the city and territorial development. The i2a group thus seeks to identify the best formulas in order to be able to contribute as a research centre to reflection and debate about the changes occurring in the Ticino region. Since October 2014 it has programmed a monthly series of talks followed by an exchange of ideas with members of the public which is subsequently continued in the forum.i2a.ch blog. The fourth of these sessions features Judit Carrera, director of the European Prize for Urban Public Space who will be representing the Centre of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB), and Alfredo Spaggiari, head of the Urban Center of Milan. The lectures of these two speakers will be followed by a discussion with members of the public moderated by Ludovica Molo, director of i2a.
