The Bridgefoot Street Park project was born from a collaborative and innovative design process in Dublin's Liberties neighbourhood. It stands out for its encouragement of community involvement and its approach to significant waste reduction. The area used to be home to a landfill site, prisons, barracks and housing. Now, the one-hectare park, built using tonnes of secondary materials creating a multi-layered landscape, reflects residents’ needs and offers the flexibility to adapt to future requirements. Thanks to this redevelopment, the park, designed by DFLA, has been transformed into a green space that addresses social and environmental concerns, integrating sustainability, biodiversity and climate resilience. It features vegetation, reused materials like concrete, bricks, and crushed glass, and now includes community initiatives such as sculptures created by former inmates. Since opening in 2022, Bridgefoot Street Park has been praised for its rewilded aesthetic and innovative reuse of materials.
