Shared Spaces interviews Ash Amin, one of the leading experts on economic geography and regional development in Europe.
Shared spaces interviewed Ash Amin in May 2012, on the occasion of his visit to the Centre of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB) to participate – together with Sandra Ezquerra, Yudit Kiss, Slawomir Sierakowski, Carme Colomina and Bashkim Shehu – in the debate "Reinventing Democracy in Europe: For a New Politics of Common Interest". In the interview, Amin spoke out for the need for a different Europe, an alternative to the present neoliberal model, and for a more representative kind of democracy which, not subject to the rules of the market, would be more attentive to people’s needs and desires. He says that this new vision of the future could be constructed on the basis on observation of what happens in the squares and streets of Europe, which are goods held in common and shared by people. In brief, Ash Amin maintains that “we must construct a more democratic Europe on the basis of its urban public space”.
