The European Prize for Urban Public Space is now in its final phase which includes two days in which the teams representing the five finalist works in the general category will present their projects in public at the CCCB and the Jury will announce the winning projects.
What are Europe’s best public space projects in recent years? What proposals are presented with the aim of promoting urban regeneration, environmental sustainability, social cohesion, and preservation of the natural setting and cultural milieu of European cities?
The 2024 award of the European Prize for Urban Public Space has been a success in terms of participation in two different categories, with a total of 297 works from 35 countries from all around Europe. In addition to the general category, this year’s award has incorporated the seafronts category which highlights the importance of coastal areas as strategic spaces when responding to the challenges of climate change and also mobility and civic coexistence.
The international Jury with the architect, urbanist, and industrial designer Beth Galí as its president, met in July 2024 to select the five finalist works in each category from among the 253 works presented in the general category and 44 in the seafronts category.
The authors of the five finalist works in the seafronts category presented their projects to the Jury on 9 September at the CCCB as part of the programme of the “Cities and Sea” conference.
On Monday 28 October at 6.30 p.m., the five finalists of the general category will present their projects at an event that is open to the public.
The following day, Tuesday 29 October at 6.30 p.m., the Jury will announce the winning works of the two categories at a award-giving ceremony. This event will be chaired by Ms. Lluïsa Moret, President of the Barcelona Provincial Council, and will be compered by the journalist Carolina Rosich.
Both sessions offer an exhibition of the selected and finalist projects which may be seen in the Theatre Hall at the CCCB.
The two events are free of charge, but it is necessary to reserve tickets in advance for the award-giving ceremony.
The ceremony will also be broadcast live through this web page.
The prize in the seafronts category is part of the Cultural Regatta, a programme of activities promoted by the Barcelona City Council on the occasion of the holding of the America’s Cup in the city.
