Interview with Sascha Wienecke, co-author of Zollverein Park, Special Mention of the 2018 Prize

Nature had overrun the post-industrial site of Zollverein for many years while the question of what to do with such a large space, which had occupied a key role in the recent history of the Ruhr, was being debated. The project has eventually sought to make preserving history compatible with bringing new life and uses to the area covered by the park, understanding that this will entail a long period of transition.

Still unfinished and continually evolving, the park will keep on changing and adapting to new uses and ideas contributed by local residents who use it every day.
