Interview with Kuba Snopek and Tomek Świetlik, authors of Stage, Special Mention in the 2018 Prize
The essence of the Stage project is to be found in its collaborative nature in which collective design was the main method. Architects, future users, and artists came together in a large, diverse group of people working together in its different stages. The aim was to build a new cultural centre for the city and, with this “radical grassroots intervention”, a new community was also created around it.
The architectural design of “Stage” was a critical response to the plan of the old Stalinist theatre, which emphasised the division between actors/performers and audience. The new Stage seeks to blur this boundary so that people can freely and equally participate in whatever performance, co-creation or event is taking place.
