Homelessness is a pressing issue in Bucharest, with vulnerable individuals depending on the safety and resources available in more central areas. However, municipal social services are often located on the city's outskirts, making access challenging. A critical need for homeless individuals is safe storage for their belongings, which often is not available. Space for Solidarity reclaims an abandoned urban location in the city centre to address this need and provide modular storage units with electricity, benches, tables, and a versatile community space with room for sports. The project is co-managed by local institutions and NGOs, which provide daily support and contact with Bucharest's social services. Designed as a pilot project, the space is portable and can be set up in other locations, with plans already in place to extend this model to other central locations in the city.
