The final phase of this year’s award is approaching with the sessions this autumn at the CCCB where finalists will present their works to the jury.
The European Prize for Urban Public Space is an honorary biennial award which, since 2000, has recognised the best projects of creating, transforming, and recovering public spaces in European cities as crucial areas of urban life. It encourages interventions that improve the quality of life of citizens, promote sustainability, and respond to the challenges faced by today’s cities.
With its twelfth award this year, the 2024 European Prize for Urban Public Space has exceptionally incorporated a Seafronts category to address the challenges that coastal cities will have to face in the coming decades owing to the climate crisis. The Jury, chaired by Beth Galí, has chosen five finalists from among 44 works presented in the Seafronts category.
On 9 September at 11.30 a.m., the teams responsible for the five works selected as finalists met at the CCCB to present their projects to the jury in a session that was open to the public and led by the Prize secretary, the architect Lluís Ortega.
This event is part of the programme of the “Cities and Sea” conference, held on 9 and 10 September at the CCCB to discuss the great challenges faced by coastal cities today. In turn, the conference is one of the activities of the Cultural Regatta organised by the Barcelona City Council on the occasion of the holding of the America’s Cup in the city.
Following this, on 28 October, the five finalists in the General category of the Prize will present their projects to the jury. The next day, on 29 October, the jury will announce the winners in both categories of the 2024 Prize at a joint award-giving ceremony.
