Professor of Planning at the Bartlett School of Architecture and Planning, University College London. He was one of the world’s most widely acclaimed academics in the field of city planning. His book Cities and Civilisation (1998) is a key work in the field of city planning. He was special adviser on Strategic Planning to a number of governments in the United Kingdom and was the recipient of honorary doctorates from universities in England, Sweden and Canada. He was an honorary member of the Royal Town Planning Institute and a fellow of the British and European Academies.
