Professor of Sociology at Goldsmith College of the University of London
He has been Assistant Director of International Relations at the New School University (New York). Doctor in Clinical and Social Psychology by the Institute Wright of Berkeley (California). He has taught in several universities such as the University of Western Capo, the City University of New York and the Wits Institute for Social and Economic Research at the University of Witwatersrand (Johannesburg). He has worked for several NGO and for the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. He has published, among others, Urban Processes and Change in Africa (CODESRIA, 1998), Principles and Realities of Urban Governance in Africa (United Nations-Habitat, 2002), and For the City Yet to Come: Changing Urban Life in Africa (Duke University Press, 2004).
