Pete Fussey

Criminologist 

A criminologist and Professor of Sociology in the Department of Sociology at the University of Essex (United Kingdom), Pete Fussey works mainly in the area of surveillance and security in relation with counter-terrorism. He also specialises in security and the social impact of large-scale events, border control, organised crime and urban sociology. Besides his research and teaching work, he has also advised and worked with regional and state governments in the United Kingdom, Europe and Asia. He is a member of the LiSS (Living in Surveillance Societies) network, a European research programme designed to study contemporary security and its consequences for, and impact on the lives of citizens.

Notable among his publications are:

  • Child Trafficking in the EU (with Paddy Rawlinson, forthcoming 15 June 2015).
  • Securing and Sustaining the Olympic City: Reconfiguring London for 2012 and Beyond, (with Jon Coaffee, Gary Armstrong and Dick Hobbs, 2011).
  • Criminology: A Sociological Introduction (2004), a Sociology text book with other authors.
  • "An Interrupted Transmission? Processes of CCTV Implementation and the Impact of Human Agency” (article in the journal Surveillance & Society, 2002).
  • "New Labour and New Surveillance: Theoretical and Political Ramifications of CCTV Implementation in the UK” (article in the journal Surveillance & Society, 2002).
