Writer and visual artist

Research Associate at the African Centre for Cities, University of Cape Town. Her interdisciplinary work focuses on the politics and poetics of aesthetics, linking contemporary art, cities, and the public sphere. Her current research trilogy explores the backstage of collective practice: institution building of independent art spaces in African cities; a literary response to the archive of one of South Africa’s longest-standing visual art associations; and the labour of the imagination in an artisanal workshop environment. She is the author of the books August House is Dead, Long Live August House! The Story of a Johannesburg Atelier (FourthWall Books,  2017) and The Art of Public Space: Curating and Re-imagining the Ephemeral City (Palgrave McMillan, 2015), and the forthcoming book Panya Routes: Independent art spaces in Africa (Motto Book, 2022).
