Hjálmar Sveinsson

Philosopher. Member of the Prize’s Board of Experts (2012)

With a degree in Philosophy and Letters from the University of Iceland, he then obtained a master’s degree in Philosophy, German Studies and Literature at the Free University of Berlin, where he lived from 1986 to 1997. He worked for a long period in the mass media and, for twelve years, was a programme creator for the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service.

Since 2012 he has been working in the Reykjavík City Council and has also published several books, notable amongst which is Borgin – heimkynni okkar (Forlagið, 2017). In 2000, together with Geir Svansson and Irmu Elingsdóttir, he founded the academic book series ATVIK and, in 2007, he founded the publishing house OMDÚRMAN.
