Architect, urban designer. Member of the Prize’s Board of Experts (2022 - 2024)

Hans Teerds is a Dutch architect and urban designer. He currently works as senior lecturer at the Chair of the History and Theory of Urban Design at the Department of Architecture of the ETH in Zurich (Switzerland), where he investigates the relationship between urban inequalities and the agency of planning, architecture and construction. He wrote his dissertation at the Delft University of Technology on the public and political aspects of architecture through the writings of philosopher Hannah Arendt. He has taught numerous theory and design courses, focusing on issues regarding cities, public spaces and the agency of architecture. He is member of the editorial board of architectural journal ‘OASE’, co-edited the anthology ‘Architectural Positions: Architecture, Modernity and the Public Sphere’ (2009, with Tom Avermaete and Klaske Havik), and is author of ‘Levend Landschap, Manifest voor stad en land’ (2012, with Johan van der Zwart).
