With a doctorate in History from the University of Havana

(1942 - 2020)

He has been director of the City Museum and of the Historians' Department since 1968.
In 1981 he was put in charge of the restoration of the old centre of Havana, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. He is an advisor to the Latin American Congress on Cultural Integration (CICLA) and a member of the Legislative Parliament of the Republic of Cuba. He is author of the book La Habana, ciudad antigua (Havana, Old City – Letras Cubanas, Havana 1988), Detén el paso caminante (Stop There, Walker – Letras Cubanas, Havana 1988) and Regresar en el tiempo (Going Back in Time – Letras Cubanas, Havana 1986).
