Architect, Managing Director of LandLuft. Member of the Prize's Board of Experts (2024)

Anneke Essl studied architecture at the Technical University of Graz and at the University of Antwerp, Belgium. After gaining work experience in various architectural offices, including Ralph Erskine in Stockholm and Roland Rainer in Vienna, she worked from 2005 to 2019 at the Architekturzentrum Wien as an expert in communication of contemporary Viennese architecture and urban development.

Since 2019 she is managing director of LandLuft, a non-profit association that has promoted Baukultur in rural areas in Austria and Germany since 1999. LandLuft relies on the role model effect of successful municipalities that are found within the "Baukulturgemeinde"- Prize.  To raise awareness about the built environment in the countryside, LandLuft shares best practice examples in exhibitions, films, books, study trips, workshops, lectures and hands-on events.
