The notion of public space has many forms and can be viewed differently depending on cultural, geographical and social factors. This seminar, in Helsinki MFA, sets out to explore how urban public space is perceived in northern hemisphere.

The idea of public space has many variants and can be viewed from cultural, geographic and social perspectives. On 6 November 2014, the Museum of Finnish Architecture (MFA, Helsinki) organised a seminar in order to explore the ways in which public space is perceived in the Nordic countries.

The seminar consisted of lectures by three architects who explained their idea of public space, using their own work as examples. The colloquium concluded with a panel discussion about the views expressed by the speakers.

The seminar was jointly organised by the MFA and the Architecture Information Centre Finland, under the auspices of the Europe City programme.
