Round table on reappropiation of public space and presentation of the postgraduate course “Public space: urban politics and citizenship". At the CCCB on January 24.

On Thursday 24 January, the CCCB will be hosting a panel session discussing the reappropriation of public space on the occasion of the presentation of the postgraduate course “Public Space: Urban Policy and Citizenship”.

Understood as both an integrating instrument for the values of the city and a setting of conflict, public space is a subject that brings together experts from different disciplines. Hence, the panel will consist of David Bravo, architect and secretary of the jury of the European Prize for Urban Public Space; LaCol, the Barcelona architects’ collective; Guillem Domingo, environmental specialist and member of the Plantem-nos! urban gardens initiative; and Andrés Naya, who works with the publication La veu del Carrer-FAVB. The moderator of the discussion will be the geographer Albert Arias, who is a member of the Trama Urbana (Urban Weft) collective.

The debate is open to the social networks through the Twitter account #EspacioPúblico. Please give us your views!

The postgraduate course being launched on this occasion is based on a transversal perspective that fosters understanding, reflection and action on urban public space, while also paying attention to its diversity, richness and complexity. It aims to offer the appropriate theoretical and practical skills for thinking about, designing and managing public space in a holistic manner, taking into account the complexity of the urban reality and upholding democratic values.

The format of the course is a combination of distance learning and classroom attendance. It is organised by the City and Urban Planning Management Area at the Open University of Catalonia (UOC) and the Institute of Government and Public Policy at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) with the collaboration of the Centre of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB) as the initiating and organising entity, together with the other six European institutions that are partners in the European Prize for Urban Public Space.
