Krzysztof Nawratek

Architect and urbanist. Member of the Prize’s Board of Experts (2012-2018)

Trained as an architect and urbanist, he has worked in Poland, Latvia (for the Riga City Council and the architecture studio NAMS), and Ireland (as an urbanist at Colin Buchanan, Dublin). He is a senior lecturer in Humanities and Design Architecture at the University of Sheffield. Prior to this he taught at Plymouth University and the University of Latvia, and he also worked as a researcher at the National Institute for Regional and Spatial Analysis in Maynooth, Ireland. His main area of research is urban theory and, specifically, the evolution of post-socialist cities, the crisis of the neoliberal city, and urban reindustrialisation.

He was a member of the selection committee for Poland’s contributions to the Biennale of Venice in 2012 and 2014. As a writer, he has published City as a Political Idea (University of Plymouth Press, 2011), Holes in the Whole: Introduction to the Urban Revolutions (Winchester Zero Books, 2012) and Radical Inclusivity. Architecture and Urbanism (DPR-Barcelona, 2015), as well as articles and chapters in several published books.
