Ellis Woodman

Architect and architecture critic. Director of The Architecture Foundation (AF). Member of the Prize jury (2016-2018) and member of the Prize’s Board of Experts (2010)

Trained as an architect at the universities of Cambridge and North London, Ellis Woodman practised the profession for eight years. Since 2003 he has been an architecture critic and worked for Building Design, The Telegraph, The Architectural Review and Architect’s Journal. In 2008 he curated Home/Away: 5 British Architects Build Housing in Europe at the British pavilion of the Venice Biennale.

He is author of the books The Architecture of James Gowan: Modernity and Reinvention (Black Dog, 2008), Home/Away: Five British Architects Build Housing in Europe: The Development of Housing in Britain 1870-2008 (The British Council Visual Arts Publications, 2008) and 2G N.63 Office Kersten Geers David Van Severen (Gustavo Gili, 2012). His articles form part of publications about architecture by Office KGDVS, Biq, David Chipperfield Architects and Peter Markli, among others.

He has been part of the jury of the European Prize for Urban Public Space since 2016 and was a member of the expert committee in 2010.
