Joaquim Español

Architect. Member of the Prize jury (2002)

Graduated in Architecture in 1971 and doctor cum laude in 1995 at the ETSAB. Staff lecturer at the same university since 1980. He also taught at EINA School of Design and the Accademia di Architettura of the Università delle Svizzera Italiana, from 2004 to 2009. He combines academia with architecture praxis. He has worked with Francesc Hereu since 1974. From 2000 to 2004 he was Director of Urban Plans and Projects at Barcelona City Council.

His books include Entre técnica y enigma. Miradas transversales sobre las artes (Entreambos, 2015), Forma y Consistencia (Fundación Caja de Arquitectos, 2007) and El orden frágil de la arquitectura (Fundación Caja de Arquitectos, Special Doctorate Prize 2000). He has also been a member of the Mies Van der Rohe Foundation, the jury of the FAD Prize for Architecture in 2002 and the Forum projects competition in 2000.

Member of the jury of the European Prize for Urban Public Space in 2002.
